LabVIEW FRC Update 3.0 Released

Description

This software is the third mandatory update for the LabVIEW portion of the FIRST Robotics Competition Software 2009.  You MUST install this update in order to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition.  This software update is meant to be installed ONLY after installing LabVIEW FRC from the DVD that comes with the 2009 Controls Kit. You do not have to install the first or second update in order to install this update. This update incorporates the changes from the first and second update. In some cases you may be required to reactivate your software via the NI License Manager after installing.

Download Instructions

1. Go to "Home > Already Involved > FRC > Documents and Updates  >  2009 Control System" on the usfirst.org site.

2. Click on the link LabVIEW FRC software update

3. Download FIRST Robotics Software 2009 - Windows - LabVIEW -- THIRD MANDATORY UPDATE  - http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/1180/lang/en

Installation Instructions

These have been modified from NI's instructions to accomodate for issues I have seen with our team.

  1. Reboot your computer (this will verify that all programs are closed)
  2. Log on as an administrator or as a user with administrator privileges.
  3. Download "FRCLabVIEWUpdate3.0.zip"
  4. Extract all contents of the zip file to a temporary folder.  Do NOT run the setup from inside a zip program.
  5. Double-click setup.exe from the temporary folder and follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
  6. Reboot your computer
  7. Download the new cRIO image to the controller (FRC_2009_v11.zip)

On a side note

Through tracking a thread on the USFirst forums, I was able to get notification that a new LabVIEW update was released.  However, in general there is no apparent way to be notified when a new update to the LabVIEW FRC has been released.  I don't see this updated posted anywhere on the ni.com/first, or usfirst forums.  Can there be a moderator-only thread that adds a new reply when there is an update?  That way, you could subscribe to the thread when a new software update is available.

Thanks and Enjoy!

I installed Update 3 and I now have a broken project  The system cannot find GyroDevRefToAnalogChannelDevRef.vi.  This is coming from the WPI library and is used by the GetAngle.vi.  Both my project which uses a gyro and the Gyro example will no longer work.  Any Suggestions as to where I may obtain his .vi, and why the update would cause it to disappear?

Mark

I have found the file under Program Files/National Instruments/Labview 8.5/vi.lib/WPI/Robotics Library/Gyro/

Any ideas why the system wouldn't be able to find this file after the upgrade, I was able to browse to it to re-attach it

The changes are listed in the readme installed at c:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.5\readme\readme_FRC.html

Mgurgol, is it just the GyroDevRefToAnalogChannelDevRef.vi that it is causing trouble or are other VIs showing symptoms of missing VI links? Does anyone else with 3.0 installed have the same problem?

Here's another report of the problem: http://forums.usfirst.org/showthread.php?t=11660

It was just the one vi.

Cross post

I just had the same problem. When it gives you the file window, if you browse to C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.5\vi.lib\Robotics Library\WPI\Gyro, you can select the requested VI.

It looks like both GetAngle and Close have this problem.

What's different in the 3.0a release compared to 3.0 that came out a few days ago?
