An application that ran correctly on 3.1.1 gives runtime errors on 3.2.3

My application was originally developed to work with version 3.1.1 of the Communication Manager.  This application uses the nifDownloadDomain API.  If we install this application on a system running 3.2.3 of Comm Manager the API returns the error code -6 (E_RESOURCE).  Can you provide some suggestions regarding why this would occur?  Thanks.

Just wanted to think out  loud. I think the error code is likely due to an invalid handle.
