NI-FBUS Communication Manager cannot initialize FB board 1

I am running Windows 2000, service pack 3 on a Dell Inspiron 8200. I have NI-FBUS 3.1 installed. I have set up my computer, hub, and HSE/H1 Linking Device as shown on figure 1-1 of the FBUS-HSE/H1 Linking Device User Manual. I have set up my software as described in the Getting Satrted with Your HSE Linking Device NI-FBUS Software. When I try to run the NI-FBUS Communications Manager I get the message "NI-FBUS Communicatins Manager cannot initalize the fieldbus board 1. Cancel to Exit, OK to continue.". Where should I start looking for my error?

It seems that the HSE LD might not be configured properly. Did you configure the LD in Interface Configuration Utility? For a new HSE/H1 LD, you need to assign a new tag for the device in Interface Configuration Utility.

I suggest you send e-mail to "fieldbus.support@ni.com" for specific support.

I found the problem. I changed the IP address of the computer to be similar to the IP address of the HSE device. Communications are now established.

Your computer may not use the same DHCP as the linking device, which causes it fails to communicate with the linking device.

A simple way to detect it is ping the linking device.
