Laura,
There are times when messages get deleted
(as seen on this link http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=BreakPoint&thread.id=7611 )
which does tend to lead to confusion to users when reading through the posts. Especially if there are links to the deleted post.
Maybe when a message gets deleted a substitute post could be put in its place.
Regards
Ray

Dear Ray,
The link you are pointing out deals with the conversation to delete the posts asap that are kind of spam.
There is no need to have a substitute post since only unwanted and spam kind of posts only will be deleted by the admin.

Thanks Mathan for reporting that message when you saw it, and thanks to Laura for taking care of it so quickly.
I think Ray is just saying there should be a remnant that shows the post was there. Sometimes you might see a message where it would say "Message Edited by Moderator" (Just like messages will say they were edited by .....) In this case, a completely cleaned up message with subject line like "Deleted Message" and the body of the message saying "Message Erased by Moderator at 8:10 am" (or whatever time), everyone would have known which message was being referred to by your post and wouldn't have let to the long series of e-mails about it.

Hi all,
When I do edit a message you will see a note "Message edited by Support on [time]". The message in question here definitely had to be deleted because the user name was also offensive. I typically get to SPAM before any one has commented on it so I am able to just delete it.
If another situation arises where the community is already discussing the post that I am going to delete, I will leave a placeholder of some kind.
Thanks,
Laura
