Exact phrase search quirk

[Sorry if this has been discussed somewhere else - I didn't know what to search for to find it Smiley Very Happy]

I was trying to search for the phrase "Explain Changes" and found an "interesting" behaviour:

Apparently "changes" is the plural of "chang", and "chang" is too common to be searched Smiley Very Happy

(Scroll up to see the message near the top of the search page: "'chang' is a very common word and was not included in your search")

This made me chuckle - any idea how to get around it?  All chuckling aside, this is a fairly major bug - the "common word" filter needs to be disabled for the "exact phrase" field, since a phrase needs to be able to contain common words.  The smarts which also filters out plurals should be disabled as well, of course.

I know exactly what you mean!  We have discussed this internally and agree that "Exact Phrase" should mean "Exact Phrase" including common words.  I believe currently this is an issue with the forums search engine in that the "common words" are not even in the search index so it can't find them.  We have documented this issue.

I just wanted to bump this and say it's still a problem.  Also, if I search for "unregistered" (exact phrase), it returns messages with every form of the word "unregister" (i.e. "unregister", "unregistering", etc.).

I wonder what it would return if I search for "exact phrase". Smiley Tongue

Hello Jaegen,

I know - this can be quite frustrating sometimes.  I reported this problem towards the end of last year and do not know if Lithium is planning to fix it.  I noted that we would prefer this functionality to work the way it does on Google.

I'll keep watching it to see if it gets fixed.

Thanks!

Try to search (exact) for GUID, and notice the number of 'guide'
