My opinion has no weight in this discusion but I would like to mention that grey hair has nothing to do with Veteran etc.
Gary hair is anti-genetic. Unlike your genes that you inherit from your parents, you get gray hair from your kids.
Ben
You are SO correct about that. I have definitely noticed a increase in the amount of gray as my kids have gotten older. Divorce is another source of gray but I won't get into that here.

I apologize that it has been so long since I've posted an update about this. I had to put the project on hold for a while. I am back to thinking about it again, and our current idea is to keep the three bars, where the first one reflects engagement (tags, kudos, etc.), the second one reflects contribution like posts and ideas, and the third one reflects messages/pages viewed (still working some feasibility details on this). The colors of the bars would change as you increase your activity.
However, we do propose a change to the names. For example:
Knight of NI stays the same
Proven Zealous Veteran becomes Zealot
Proven Enthusiastic Veteran becomes Enthusiast
Proven Active Member becomes Active Member
In other words, the name of the rank would be based on the contribution. The other activities would be reflected just in the color of the boxes. Knight of NI would keep the shield icon, so you would not see the other two boxes.
Your thoughts?
Thanks!

I think that if you change the titls to shorter names more enphasis should be placed on the quality of posts (kudos, solutions, etc.) then merely the number of posts. I think this is more important for new people to be see who has the best repoutations for quality posts rather than simply posting lots of messages. The number of posts a person has could also factor into earning a title but it should not be the sole factor. Nor should it be the most important.

It has been five months since you asked us what we wanted.
What is delaying implementing the change?
Can we expect it soon?
I'd like see those that have been contributing given the oppertunity to show-off their new badges.

Hi Ben,
I just found out at the end of last week that we have do not have resources to do this project as we originally thought. There are some changes I can make that affect only the forums so I will work on that so that we do not have to wait further.
Perfect timing for this question 🙂
Thanks,
Laura

Why can not you do as with license plates. If you pay extra you can have your own license plate design. Problem solved for both badge dandy's and your budget
For my self in humble modesty I would like this one

It's not a budget constraint, but rather a people constraint. Awesome crown though 😉

I've almost finished testing the forum rank changes and hope to make the changes this month. When I do, you will see that we are dropping the "proven", "trusted", "regular" and "veteran" parts of the rank names because they do not align well with the metrics that the first and third box of the rank icon blue or yellow bar will now represent.
As a reminder, the first box will stand for a combination of accepted solutions, kudos and tags. The middle box will represent number of posts so it will remain as it is today. The third box will represent the number of message views.
So my question is do the following make sense for the rank names which will be based off post count:
Member (less than 200 posts)
Active Member ( 200 - 1999 posts)
Enthusiast (2000 - 4999 posts) - Should this be Enthusiastic Member instead?
Zealous Member (5000 - 9999 posts) - Should this be Zealot instead?
Knight of NI (10000 and above)
Each post level can have multiple colors for the first and third bar depending on where each of you fall on the scale for solutions, kudos and tags and message views. Right now I don't plan to divulge those levels unless there is a strong desire for me to do so. I've analyzed how many users fall into each category and spaced them accordingly so only a few members are in the highest levels. There are four levels for each of these metrics. Once you reach Knight of NI then the only metric that forces a change in your icon is the post count.
I know this might not make the most sense so please ask questions and give feedback on the rank names.
Thanks!
Laura

Laura-
Thanks for your persistence.
I like the idea of either having all 2 word rank names (with the exception of member) or all 1 word rank names. Something about "Zealous Member" doesn't seem right to me, though (I guess I still equate "member" with "just got here").
If going toward 1 word rank names, maybe: Member, Regular, Enthusiast, Zealout, Knight of NI
If going toward 2 word rank names, maybe: Member, Regular Participant, Trusted Enthusiast, Proven Zealout, Knight of NI
