Don't use the "Add Image". You attach the image, post the message, edit the post, get the URL of the image (use the "current" post below the edit, which will include your image), and just paste in the editor. The editor will convert the URL into the image.
In my opinion, the Add Image should attach the image to the post instead of sending stuff into the album.
WAIT!
You mean if I go and clean up my image album and delete them all, all the images that I posted will disappear? That would be very unfortunate.

Yes, that's what happens in my experience.
There are several older threads with messages from me showing this "missing image" placeholder - because some time ago I thought it would be a good idea to delete some old images from my personal album…

That is exactly the case. I just had a good conversation about this with the new community manager. I think he agrees with me, but it will be hard to do what I would like (have the Insert Image attach an image to the post instead of going into an album).

If you look any any image in the album, you will actually find a link to threads where it is used. For us graphical thinkers, it could be a useful way find an old thread if we still remember the image.
But yes, as mentioned elsewhere long ago, there should be a cleanup tool that allows removing any images that are not used anywhere.

Just tried to be smart when creating a message:
There was an image uploaded by a different user and I wanted to embed that image in my message. So I get the link to this image and pasted it in the editor. BUT: instead of the image itself (as happens when pasting the link to my own uploads) all I got was the bare link (as text) in the message.
@Kristi_Martinez:
When we can paste links to images in the editor to get the image shown shouldn't we also be able to paste links to other contributor's images to embed their images?

Sure you can. Here's an image from one of your recent posts.
When I have seen what you are describing was when the extension was capitalized. I got bit with this due to the MS Snippet tool defaulting to PNG instead of png.

Oh boy, thanks for this insight!
Yes, the image had capitalized file suffix…
@Kristi_Martinez:
I will rephrase my feedback: Please make the "image paste process" in the editor immune against capitalized filenames/-suffixes (or any combination of lower/upper case chars)!

I found the place where Lili helped me figure this out. It is in a private board but here's the link anyways: https://forums.ni.com/t5/The-Round-Table/Coming-Soon-Improved-image-upload-experience/td-p/3652702/p...

Thanks. I had seen that behavior happen before, and I never knew why. Now I know how to fix it.

Hi @GerdW,
I double-checked our settings for image file extensions. We have included capitals in those file extensions.
