That tip works in IE8 also.
But honestly, I'm so used to right clicking that a right click then click with 1 hand is less tedious than going Ctrl&Shift with my left hand then left click with my right hand. The choice for View in New Tab is right near the top so there isn't any scrolling or far to go.
