LeaderBoard - August 27, 2007

tst pondered "The question should be "what would cause people to be interested in something like this on a regular basis?"."

I can only speak for myself, but judging by the July posting were there were NO replies to Laura's update, that page was viewed 202 times so people seem to be interested.

The reason I started the status up again when I posted the new version of the Leader board was there was no way of telling which of the new contributors were stepping forward.

I have to agree the comments by CC are missed.

The trending is something that I started and dropped because the comma delimited list complicated my code because some users had commas in their name.

The request to change the post foramt was to help me get the trending implemented such that I did not have to do any manual editing.

After I finsih my CLA re-certification, I was planning to return to that feature.

Hi tst,

My initial idea with providing this LeaderBoard was to give everyone raw data to work with.  This way, if someone wants to create a trending program (like Ben has done) they can, or if someone wants to use CC's E-List algorithms they can do that as well.

Perhaps there is some trait we can look for every two weeks and the "winner" can be posted in the announcements.  The trait could change each week - most number of posts in the last two weeks, largest number of logins, largest number of BreakPoint posts, etc.  Right now we don't have all this information available to us, but the next version of the LeaderBoard that James is working on should.

Another idea - I can give the LeaderBoard file to a forum member to do some analysis and post rather than doing it myself.

Those are just some easy ideas I had - let me know if you have more!

Regards,
Laura

You know Laura, if I could rate your postings, I would not have to write a reply when you say something good.

Good ideas!

How about listing the top-5 in all of those catagories?

Top poster (count)

Top Star getters

status changes (like when tst moves past me in third place Smiley Happy )

Unfortunately, I've had trouble getting my LeaderBoard program to complete  Smiley Sad  It was due on September 10th.

I will keep trying next week and see if I can make some progress.

Thanks,
Laura

We're experimenting with the format of the Leaderboard.  I am attaching a file that is a little out of date, it is from September 17th.  We've added a rating column and columns to denote whether the person is an NI Employee or if they are idle.  I'm still working on getting a file for September 24th.

Enjoy!

HI Laura,

Smiley WinkSmiley HappySmiley Tongue

That looks great.

If we look at our posts as investments and the stars are pay-back then a ground-leveling number an additional column could be added.

For all users with at least 1 rating and at least 50 (?) posting please include a

Total#_of_Stars_Earned / Total#_of_Posts

I did a quick to include this collumn and then sorted on same. Users appear to sort into the order I would rate them (but then again, I have been rating them Smiley Wink )

Others please comment if this additional collumn is resonable!

" ... the math behind avg_msg_rating_total?"

Good point!

Some of them seemed to be off by a factor of ten.

Mine was about what I expected. Same with Jeff K's.

I am not complaining, unless this is something like golf where the lower score is better. 😄
