LeaderBoard - October 8, 2007

The new LeaderBoard is here!

If you notice a discrepancy between the number of posts reported in the LeaderBoard and the number of posts showing up in your forum profile, I recently deleted posts from one of our Beta boards that can cause this.  Unfortunately, there is no way to keep those extra posts in your overall total.

What other sorts of data would be interesting to see?  I can include things like number of posts per category (Most Active Software, Special Interest, etc.), minutes online....

Regards,
Laura

First, I'll just say good work with the stat keeping Laura.

Second, I think keeping track of minutes online is another good idea.  How about number of messages read as well, if at all possible?

Those two stats show overall activity on the forums and how much people actually read and look to help, even if they aren't capable of doing so.

Thanks for the feedback Steve!

I will include minutes online for us to look on the next LeaderBoard - it should be October 22.

Laura

How about including all of the stats that don't reveal personal info?

I do like Steves suggestion.

The ratio of threads read to # of posts  could be used as a "lurker" or "Wisdom Index"*.

I dunno...

What about people who read lots of posts as a means for self learning?

They wouldn't post because they don't know the answer or others have posted answers before them.

I know I read lots of posts, but someone got the answer and I just go to another thread..  So, I'd be categorized as a lurker.. which I am, but not officially.. 😄

Ditto. And don't forget about time difference. I'm in the US, central time, and I find that when I come in to work and pop open the boards, many messages have already been answered by those who are east of me. So, I usually just look at threads to see what was being discussed and what the answers were.

"...I find that when I come in to work and pop open the boards, many messages have already been answered by those who are east of me. "

That is one of the reasons I look a the forums when I get up in the AM. It lets me grab the low-hanging-fruit before anyone else.

My wife has often asked "What would they think if they knew you were answering their questions wearing ....*" Smiley Surprised

Yes, it is really irritating for us on the west coast if all problems of the world have already been solved by the time we get up. 😄

All we can do is maybe come up with an improvement to the existing answers. Oh the pressure!

Must be really frustrating for those in Hawaii. But they live in Hawaii, so that makes up for it. Smiley Wink

Don't worry, altenbach, I think you have a safe future in correcting all the incomplete/wrong answers that we "easterners" (from your perspective) make up just to get that post count up. Smiley Very Happy
