Dear Forum Users,
I would like to announce two exciting new features available to you on the NI Discussion Forums.
The first new feature is a new method of rating messages called "Kudos" that replaces the 1 to 5 stars rating system. Kudos allows you to let other forum users know that a message is a valuable message. When you give a message Kudos by clicking on the Kudos icon, the author of that message also gets Kudos. You can then view the Top Kudoed Messages and Top Kudoed Authors in the leaderboards. To view Kudos that you have given or received, you can visit your profile page by clicking on your forum alias. Average ratings of 4.0 stars and higher were all converted to Kudos. You can read more about the details of the conversion here.
The second new feature is the ability to mark a particular reply as a solution to your question. If you have created a new thread to ask a question on the NI Discussion Forums and someone has posted a reply that answers your question you can click the "Solution?" icon to mark that reply as a solution. When other forum users search for a message or view a thread they can easily see which questions have been answered. By marking the reply that provides the solution to your question you can benefit other users that have that same problem in the future.
Both new features are available to all registered users of the NI Discussion Forums. I hope you enjoy them!
Regards,
Laura

I guess the correct tense is "will be converted", because my profile currenty says:
I guess it will take a while to trickle down into the database. 🙂
Also how is the transitions going. It seems that messages that I have starred in the past are now still available to be kudoed. Correct?

In the board view, can the kudos and tags section be moved to be under the navigation bar? I personally find being able to get to the content a lot more important than knowing how people rated the content and I don't need a ~10 line interruption in attempting to do that task.

Hi Laura!
First: same problem as Altenbach!
Second: look at this! It seems that the person who posted looking for help, found himself the best solution!

I don't mind:

I used to be able to sort the results of a search on Rating. The Kudos column replaces the Rating, but I can't sort on it like I could on rating...

Hi Everyone,
I turned on the features a few hours before the conversion actually ran, but it has taken place now.
altenbach - now can you give Kudos to messages you rated previously? My guess is that this link was not maintained, the conversion just gave out Kudos to the appropriate messages and authors.
tst - what page are you referring to? On the board view pages I changed the default so the tag clouds and leaderboards are at the bottom of the page instead of the right side. It is still configurable by user.
Graziano - that's interesting, I bet that solved marking should go to a different reply. I know that this will happen in the forum. The user that started the thread can certainly correct their mistake, they can remove the solved marking from the Options menu.
Phillip - I will file that as a suggestion to Lithium.
Thanks,
Laura

Great to see the stars gone. Let's hope the Kudos system works better.
A suggestion: Most posters will simply not look in this forum or even see the little line in the "Announcements" section to see that a new feature has been added. Thus, I can see a situation where Kudos will be given out when not intended because people will simply click on a bright, shiny, yellow icon. Heck, I did it myself! I think the icon should be a bit more descriptive to indicate what it's supposed to do. I don't know perhaps some text such as "Like it?" or something.

This morning I saw this listing:
Mind you, I'm not complaining , but in all honesty it doesn't seem right. How in the world could I have possibly gotten more Kudos than Dennis or altenbach? Weren't star ratings converted to Kudos, or something?

The Leaderboards by default show you the people with the most Kudos in the last month - you can change the range by clicking on the links at the top. You can also change your default in your profile under Preferences > Kudos settings.
Thanks,
Laura
