Pages not fully loading

Laura, I've seen quite a few times today an issue where pages don't fully load on my side. It looks like the conversation between the browser (IE 7) and the server just stops at some point. Practically, this means that only part of the page is loaded (immediately) and as far as the browser is concerned, the page is fully loaded. I've seen this happen in the main forums page, in board views and in threads. Usually, a refresh resolved it, but sometimes I had to go back and click the link again. I don't have a screen shot, but it looks something like this: Correction - it would have looked something like this, but this window also stopped loading, so I can't attach or do a strikethrough. In other windows, the HTML code just stops in the middle. In this one, it seems to have loaded all the way through, but the editor code doesn't seem to be fully loaded.

OK, so now I saw it again and the editor loaded fine, so here's an image and the end of the HTML code:

Hi tst,

I know that you are rather far removed from the servers that host the forums - when you see this behavior where the page loading stops, does it seem to take longer than usual?

We're starting an investigation into improving page performance.  I can't guarantee that we'll cure all of the loading and performance problems that have been reported recently but I am hopeful that we'll be able to make some changes that help in this area.

Thanks,

Laura

No. In fact, it often takes less time, as the page doesn't even fully load. From what I've seen, it's about five seconds from the time I click on a link until the page loads like that. As I said, it just looks like browser thinks it got the page fine.

I should point out that this only started today and that I'm seeing it on two separate computers (both running a standard copy of IE7 with no remarkable extensions). I should also point out that this only happens in this site (I think it's only the forums, but I haven't checked the rest of the site) and that it happens quite a lot. I said "several" times, but in fact now it happens very often.

Tst, i think you can download RC1 and update your browser. I was using IE8 and saw the problems you mentioned and as per Altenbach's suggestion in some other thread, i upgraded to RC1 and all the problems run away.

Thanks,

Mathan

I'm using IE7, not 8.

This also happened today, although it seemed to happen fewer times. I'm actually surprised that no one else seems to see this.

Laura, any chance of doing something about this? It's really quite annoying.

I can say that I have a new PC with IE8 installed, and it seems to happen less there, but it still happens. On the others with IE7 it happens more often. This started last week, so I assume something was changed somewhere, and it only seems to happen with the forums.

Hi tst,

While I can't promise anything immediately, our web teams are looking into this issue - they believe it could be affecting multiple parts of our site.  I also have reported the issue to Lithium in case this particular problem is more on their side.

Thanks,

Laura

Hi tst,

Have you tried Firefox?

I don't have Firefox installed on any easily accessible computer. I might be able to run it on a virtual machine soon.
