Well, If we really want to be historically correct, let's go back to December 2004 and have a look at my very old post. 😄

Obviously genius stays consistent over time! Smiley Very Happy

What is that idiom: those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it? Well, I didn't really start becoming active until the very end of 2005, so my history doesn't go that far back (and my memory even less), so this must mean that I am destined to a life of deja vu'. Smiley Sad

Very offtopic:

Ahhh, reading these old threads brings back memories of the good old days! 😄

If you remember all the great efforts by Molly K, and you have some loose change burning a hole in you pocket, you can support her entry in the Chicago Breast Cancer 3-Day . A very noble cause!

These posts are old!

In the early days, (before the new format) the max rating was 4 stars, while now the max is 5 stars. The old ratings were scaled to the new format during the transition.

One possible scenario. One old rating of 2 and one of 3, average=2.5 out of 4.

Scaled to the new rating 2.5 *(5/4) = 3.125, or about 3.1 as observed. 😉

All clear? 🙂

Thanks Christian,

I didn't realize that.  That makes sense.    I've only been following the forums for the past year and a half (LV programming for about 2 now.)  In that time, there hasn't been any major format changes in the forums.  They've been a great resource for me, and I've enjoyed participating them.

Although my primary concern is to stop the pain, I'd like to add some ideas for concideration if they can be implemented when things are fixed.

1) I would love to see the total number of stars per thread as apposed for reply.

2) I would not like to loose the stars we have already. The last time the forums was updated, we lost a bunch.

Are we still on track to get an update in a couple of weeks?

Hi Laura,

It has been a moth since your last post.

Could you please update us with what you can re: "The Plan" and "The Schedule" ?

Hi Ben,

It looks like I will have time to work on the rating system after my current projects are completed.  I expect that to be sometime this fall.  I have been giving some thought to the most feasible options out of all the ideas that have been listed in this thread so hopefully I will be able to move quickly when the time comes.

Thanks for your interest!

Laura,

Judging only by the survey, it appears you plan on re-aranging the furniture.

If you do move things around, can you make sure all of our links to other theads survive?

I depend on threads like "Interesting Stuff" and the "Darren Nuggets" to find link quickly.

Oh and don't forget all of our Bug Threads.

Thank you,

Ben

Hi Ben,

I do not have any connection to the survey (other than posting it in the announcements) so I cannot speak to what is planned after the results of the survey are in.

I have sent your feedback to the group that created the survey so that they can take it into consideration.

Thanks,
Laura
