Hi Ben,

It sure doesn't feel like fall here  Smiley Wink

I think fall weather starts in late November here in Texas.

This task is still at the top of my list.

Laura

What about the "Was this message helpful to you?"choice for rating a message. I'm using this at the moment and its just what you're talking about.

It's already configurable and to my opion could easily be made first choice for rating system.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

And if I'm wrong how are the "
Was this message helpful to you?" ratings taken into account?

André

Hi André,

I think you must be talking about the rating system in use on different parts of our website.  Because our forum software is created by a third-party company, my options are limited as to how we can change the rating style on the discussion forums.  The two styles available right now both can be used in a negative way.  The option I have other than the 1 to 5 stars is to use a "Was this message helpful? Yes or No" structure.  The "No" option would be as bad as rating 1 star is today.

I'm still hopeful that our forum vendor will create new rating options that are better than my two current options.  In the meantime, I will implement a small change to how it works this fall to try to cut down on the number of low ratings.

I hope this answers your question - let me know if it doesn't!

Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura,

The actions you have proposed fall short of what I had hoped for. It amounts to rationing the rotten vegetables.

I would like to encourage you to fight for us when meeting with your vendor. NI is probably cutting a nice size check for their support so lean on them!

Let them know that we are not pleased with the current state of their product and we really want it fixed.

But that is just my opinion. Smiley Wink

GO LAURA, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT !

Hi Ben,

I assure you that Lithium has plans to update the rating system - they've specifically given me this feedback and NI has been part of a process examining things that need to be updated/changed in Lithium's forums.  However, like all software companies, they cannot divulge exactly what those changes are or when they plan to implement them in case something changes (schedule slips, etc.).  Generally, when they get close to being finished with a release is when they will tell me about the specifics of the new features.  Because I have not been told of rating changes in the next release, I assume it could still be a number of months before anything changes.  So, in the meantime, I plan to implement something that will cut down on the number of 1 star ratings.   The change is easy for me to implement and easy for the community to get used to.  When Lithium does release changes to the rating system they will be much larger changes and will take a good deal of work to incorporate them into our community.

I'm not sure how else I can convince you that this is an issue that I am working on, and that both Lithium and I have plans to change the rating system.

I should know soon about a time frame for the ratings change that I will make and will then post more about what exactly it is going to be.

Regards,
Laura

Sorry about giving you  a hard time over this issue.

This issue predates your days as our keeper. Unfortunately we have been told that there were plans to fix this many times but nothing was ever done.

The only things that I can suggest to help you is;

1) Keep us updated. Even if the updates is "no-action", it lets us know that you have not forgotten.

2) Stay on Lithium to get this fixed.

Hang in the Laura!

How else would I know that I'm loosing my touch!? 😄

Apparently, my average went from 4.9 to 4.8 in the last week or so. It seems I have to start to seriously improve the quality of my replies. 😮

(I need to work harder. It seems that rewriting and adapting a complicated application only deserves 4 stars these days.:

It makes me long for the day when we will just have a total star count rather than this silly average of averages.

I have been trying hard to get to 4.9 average after having climbed up from 4.5 when the Exchange morphed into the forums.

Just when I think I am getting close....

1-star and I have to start over again.

Laura,

Please keep our request for a "total of all stars" on the table.

It would encourage more Nuggets. That last uber-Nugget that Ray helped me with would have earned my 155 stars.

I'm not shure à total star count would be better.

I can gess how hard it is to get to an average of 4.5 stars, and for me it is better than having 10 000 stars in total because you have posted 10 000 post wich are only woth one star!

My questions offen get one star rating for question I ask ( http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=4170&message.id=16269 ) which makes all my efforts to help people invisible. I d'ont think a questione should be given any stars.

I also think it's hard to get the right rating system.

Sorry for my  english
spelling (I'm french)
