Question sent to the wrong boards

Hi,

There have been a number of questions posted into the wrong boards recently. ( I am not getting at any one).

So here is the scenario:

You have entered the Forum, e.g. you have selected NI Discussion Forums, you can not post a question at this stage.
You have to actually select one one the boards.
So you have a Data Acquisition question. You choose Hardware because its a hardware related question and you select Multifunction DAQ because that seems to be the best fit.

Ok , now you select New Message and you follow the Steps, by firstly doing a search.
The results come back and either there are no results or the results do not answer your question.
So you post your question and you enter the screen that allows you to enter your question in full. When it enters this screen the, the boards is already pre-selected ie Multifunction DAQ, so you dont have to change this.

Question now entered and spell checked etc.. You select one of the check boxes so you get notified when some one posts an answer and Press the Submit Post. Then sit back and wait.

Your posts ends up in the TestStand Forums!!!!!

At what time in the process did you change the selected message board!!!!

Any thoughts any one, does the process need tweaking, or is it just "its been along day, you have been beating you head against the brick-wall and the problem wont go away".

Looks like the process definitely needs tweaking.

It's the same with people finding out "Oh, only 2 words of my post were posted and it happened several times and now there are 6 meaningless thread and I didn't even press the Post button".

It's interesting to see that Lithium, which claims it has "The Best Forums and Message Boards on the Market Today" (click the link at the bottom of the page) has so many obvious bugs in its system.

In the forums defense, its visual side is much clearer than most I know (including LAVA. It's much easier to see that there are new messages and the difference between messages in this forum than it is in the Invision one).

Hi Ray, tst,

Feeling pretty embarrassed for fitting the above descriptions.  Just posted question to this forum re: editing (hopefully deleting) mistakes.  I don't know precisely how I (twice) managed multiple-incomplete posts in rapid succession, but I'm certain it started with the Tab key - to indent - which put focus on "submit post" because it happens to be next in line.  Oblivious, I kept on typing - I guess.

As far as the cross-posted message - I figured it was, again, operator error - and it had been a long day.

Your discussion, here, has been very patient -

Thanks!

Ray and friends -

This is the first I have heard about the apparent epidemic of posting to the wrong boards. From your description, it's so misleading and it must be incredibly frustrating!
I have made several test posts using different browsers and haven't been able to reproduce this behavior yet.  My next approach will be to tinker with the internet browser tools to see if they have an impact on why the messages are being sent to the wrong boards.  Can you help me narrow it down at all any more?  If we can figure out what makes the process repeatable, that will help us get to a solution faster.

We are already working with the forum developers on the repeated posts problem.  We are continuously looking for examples to help prove the size of the issue as well as have a hefty set of examples to work with.

Actually, I haven't experienced this before myself, but I did now.

I went to the LabVIEW board, clicked New Message, wrote a question, found a couple of threads that looked interesting (one from the feedback board), went into them, decided to write the post anyway and wrote it.

Then, after clicking Submit Post, I noticed in the status bar it was posting to the feedback board, so I stopped it before it was posted and looked and it was indeed the feedback board in the drop down box. I changed it to LV and posted.

Then I went back (That's how I know for sure I clicked New Message in the LV board) and tried it again from the exact same search, but this time it opened the message window with the LV board as the target.

I didn't do any previewing or anything like that. I just added an attachment.

tst -

Please correct me if I'm wrong.  The first time, you did view a search result from the Feedback board and it defaulted you to Feedback.  The second time, you did the same search, but didn't view a result and it defaulted you to LabVIEW.  Is that correct?

Thanks for helping troubleshoot!

No.

The first time, I opened 2 results, one from the LV board and one from the feedback board (one of them was probably in a new window, most likely the LV one).

The second time I specifically made sure to go into the feedback thread before clicking back and selecting post this question and it went to the LV board.
