Rating System Change

My mother always said, if you don't have anything nice to say... don't give people 1-star ratings 😛

I noticed an interesting rating system elsewhere...  In "LinkedIn" actually..

When someone writes a referral, you have to review and accept it before it becomes active.  I like that idea...  Imagine the scenario:

Instead of star ratings, you would get a "recommendation / rating" which may or may not include comments.  You can select to accept or deny the "recommendation".  The number of "recommendations" could be used instead of avg star ratings to establish standings.

The word "recommendations" could be replaced by "helpful info", etc...

This is just a thought...  But would certainly clean up the star rating system..  And could be opened to everyone..

On the topic of what deserves a single star, I have found one.. See this reply in this thread.

Calling Dennis (and I) a bonehead is not a good idea...  😉

I certainly wouldn't hire someone like that...

Hi Ray,

I will delete that thread later today.  I checked with the person that posted the thread and the position had been filled last year, so there's really no reason for it to stay around.  In addition, the discussion has strayed from the purpose of the board.  The Job Opening and Developers Seeking Employment boards seem to have the most trouble with these sorts of things.  We discussed posting guidelines about how to use the boards, but I haven't written anything up yet.  Perhaps I should do that soon.

Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura,

LOL!  That post was completely silly....  We fail to understand why people seek employment without actually reading details about the job, when it was posted, etc.  I don't think it's a big issue... but calling Dennis names is unwise 😉  His sword might be mighty 🙂

Keeping the forum "clean" is quite the job.,...  especially when there are those with strange sense of humor..  🙂

I may have steered myself into the wrong forum, but I am ready to be done looking, and this seems somewhat appropriate. I have looked in the help section, and probably 20 different threads for my answer so if it seems stupid.... sorry.

As you can see, I have left feedback for people in the not-so-distant-past and it seemed like it was obvious how I did it. The help section tells me "To do so, log into the Forum and look for the Rate This Message feature at the bottom of messages."... OK... I know it must have been there before, but I have nothing now. I feel like a heel since I haven't rated some good Q's and A's I have gotten... Has my little bitty screen affected my vision THAT much??? Did this feature change? Did I?

I think I am about to give myself a "Five-Star" answer. I finished (tired eyes) reading ALL of the posts on this thred and discoved that one needs to have fifty posts to qualify to feed back. That was my forty ninth. Sorry to bother. At least none of the old one were retracted... Thanks for your time Laura.
