Read messages/threads show as unread

Recently, a couple times a week I've been getting messages or threads showing up on my board listing as unread. So far, I've only noticed it in the private boards I watch, but it could be happening in the others and I just can't tell because of the number of messages.

An example is in the Alliance board. A thread that was last posted to on 12 Oct. was showing up as having new messages as of this morning (thread and board title in bold type) when there are none.

Not a big deal, but just wondering what's going on.

Ed -

Good question.  So far you are the only one to report this.  I haven't seen it myself, but I will keep an eye out for it.  We had two hiccups in the system last month, and I wonder if it was a result of those?

Molly,

I've noticed this too.  In fact I've been plagued with this since a few months now.  Within the breakpoint and feedback forums, there are always a few threads which simply don't want to go over to "read" status.

I don't think it has to do with the "hiccups" you mentioned.  In fact, I think I've observed this behaviour since the new forum opened it's shiny new doors.  It's sporadic though, hard to pin down exactly.

I have a completely different variation on the theme - I looked at Rolf's latest posts to find a specific one and I noticed that another thread (where I participated) included new posts but was not in bold letters and did not have the "new posts" icon. I know, however, that when I look at my own list of posts, I do see threads with new posts as they appear in the board view (including that specific thread). I also know that when I look at other users lists of posts and they had new posts in there, the threads are marked as unread. A bit weird.

Molly,

As of right now (17:58 on the 19. December 2005 Zürich time), the "Oh no....  not again" Thread in the Breakpoint is refusing to believe it's already been read.....

Just in case you can catchs omething in the system.

Shane, this sometimes happens if you "miss" a post on the end of the first page and then, since you never look at that page, the post is never read. If you are seeing the number of new posts in the board view, click on that number and you should go to the oldest unread post (you need to be in the "sort by date" view). This doesn't sound like what happened earlier. Obviously, you can always select to reset the board in the board options button.

Molly, it's happened again, in a big way.

Right now, the entire LabVIEW and Feedback forums show as unread for me.

I'll not mark them as read for a day or two if it will help figure out what is going on.

Ed -

I noticed that there are three "Ed Dickens" aliases in the system.  I wonder if this has anything to do with the problem.  The next time it happens, glance over on the right side of the main page and see if it shows the most active version of your profile or if it is finding one of the others somehow.

We can clean those up (change their aliases) if we think that is the cause of the problem.

Thanks!

It happened again, but just with the LabVIEW board this time. It looks like the correct profile to me.
