URL shortener feature for NI Forums

I just tried to post an idea regarding the NI forums to the idea exchange. I thought I was extra clever in selecting the "Additional NI software ideas" topic, but to avail, as I have to select from MAX, VeriStand or SysConf API...

Anyway, I'll post here, and maybe someone can point me to the right place:

URL shortener feature for NI Forums

It would be great to have a built-in short URL in the NI forums to make it easier to link to forum threads or even single posts. Maybe it's as easy as using the identifier in the URL in some way?

So a link to a thread (eg https://forums.ni.com/t5/WUELUG-Würzburg-LabVIEW-User/WUELUG05-Treffen-im-Mai-2019/gpm-p/3902816) could become http://ni.com/3902816 or similar...

PS: Additional points for NI registering a .ni domain (like http://forum.ni) 😉

The Feedback on NI Community board is the best place for these types of requests. I can move this topic there, if you'd like.

There are something similar in the making for HW drivers. If you take a look at the new layout for DAQmx drivers for instance, all the different versions are now assembled into a single page with selections:

If you change a selection on that page, the number at the end of the URL changes, and there are plans to make it possible for us just to hand out that number, and have somewhere on ni.com to plug that number into to get to the exact page (in this case with all the right selections made on the DAQmx page):

Perhaps the same technology could be rolled out to more of NI's web sphere?

Possibly - but this is a different platform / backend than the rest of the site. This is a good example to have though! We will definitely look into it more.
