Upconver/Downconvert request threads

I recently created two threads to try and centralize all the downconvert/upconvert requests that come across the forums. There's one thread that was started for LV 5 -> 8.5. In some ways it's used for others. I couldn't find a thread that seemed to be a central location for downconvert requests. I did this with the premise and hope that it might be beneficial to centralize these requests. However, one thing that occurred to me is that they might get buried given the volume of posts in the LabVIEW board. Would it make sense to pin these threads to the top of the LabVIEW board? If they are pinned, then I would request that the threads be re-created so that the author is seen as someone a bit more ... "official"?

I hate floated threads. Since my request from years ago to allow individual users to unfloat threads floated by the admin has not been granted, I would say NO.

To be honest, I don't like floated threads either. I just wasn't sure if I was in the minority or not.

Maybe those threads (if there is a sufficient number of them) could go to a separate forum's section for [re]conversions only? In this case they would still be "centralized", but it also wouldn't require to pin them.

While evaluating my code please have in mind that I am a LV novice. Therefore sometimes my code might violate some coding rules that I have to learn about myself. But how else could I do that... 🙂

I don't know what the best solution is since I don't know all the possible mechanics of the forum software. It just seems to me that there are very frequent requests for upgrading/downgrading VIs. I don't know whether it's better to have people create individual requests threads or just to centralize them.

There was one post made in the downconvert thread, but apparently I either wasn't clear enough on the premise of the two threads, or the person just didn't read since it was an upconvert request. Not sure - is upconvert/downconvert that hard to understand?

Hi smercurio,

as I like the idea of pinning those threads at the top I send a message to Laura. She answered "No. People hate it." (not in this wording, but this meaning), but now these threads are pinned Smiley Wink Seems they got enough messages...

Best regards,
GerdW

Laura's right. People do hate it. I hate it. Which is why she didn't float the thread. What she did was add an announcement, which I don't mind, because the announcement section is a lot less prominent.
