We need a test forum

I could not find a test forum where we can do test postings to get familiar with the new forum tools. This would be useful to have and posts there could be cleared after a few days.

Some points that are not clear:
- I have not found a way to attach multiple files. Is this still possible?
- What are the size requirements for custom icons?
- Is a custom icon always loaded from the given remote URL or set once, then cached locally at NI? (I would really prefer to be able to upload a personal icon directly. Not everybody has access to a web server).

altenbach -

I will look into setting up a test forum and let you know if one is made available.

The new system does only allow one attachment per post. This is something that is on the list of enhancements for the future. In the meantime, you can post zip files or llbs or post multiple replies.

The size requirements for custom icons is 36x36 pixels.

Unfortunately, the custom icons are not cached locally at NI. I will look into the possibility of NI being able to host the images for members to do not have access to a web server.

Thanks for your feedback!

I fully agree.  A separate "Test" forum is definitely needed.

Now is there a test forum anywhere? Would be nice to have one...

I am planning to implement a test forum. Smiley Very Happy  I would rather not call it "Test Forum" considering the nature of a lot of our products are centered around test and they might start posting in there for help with their test systems.  Ideas for titles?
  • Practice
  • Give it a shot
  • Practice Posts Here
  • I've also seen "Scratch Pad"
Let's hear your ideas!

How about "Sandbox"?

Brainstorming here:

  • Prototyping (again has the risk of soliciting questions on prototyping)
  • First Run
  • Dry Run
  • Practice Makes Perfect
  • Test Posts
  • Test Messages
  • Practice Posts
  • Practice Messages

All I've got for now

"Practice Posts" sounds the most straightforward and least misleading to me.

I think "Off-Topic" might be best.

"Sandbox" isn't very obvious for non-native english speakers..... It might be mistaken for a product name by some.....

Most forums have an "Off-Topic" or "Miscellaneous" board for anything not covered by the other boards.  These are pretty international.
