Who is now.eloqua.com

Who is now.eloqua.com, and why are all forum pages trying to get something from that site? On Firefox I see the little message in the status bar "Read now.eloqua.com" which eventually times out. Apparently, now.eloqua.com does not support Firefox. Everything I've seen so far on now.eloqua.com seems to indicate it's a marketing company. Smiley Surprised

It is done by NI in tag-footer.js. Seems to do some page view analytics.

(more specifically: http://www.ni.com/javascript/analysis/us/tag-footer.js  download and open in e.g. wordpad for details)

Hi everyone,

Does the fact that the eloqua connection times out keep you from posting? Or is it that you've just noticed it in the status bar?  I'm going to report it to the administrators of our website, but when I test it I can't reproduce the behavior in Firefox.

Thanks,

What happens is that the page rendering freezes while it's waiting for data from the site. Some links will work, while others won't. It's always that specific site.

It probably works OK for you since you're using those speedy internet connections you have at NI. Smiley Wink

Is that what is going on?  I did notice freezing with both IE & Firefox.  It just freezes by going into another page and all other (previous) pages are also frozen.

Does it keep me from posting?  Smiley Surprised  Oh yes..  After the site freezes I do not return to the forum.

Well, typically this is near infinitely fast, so maybe they had server problems for a while.

I am wondering if certain security software (e.g. privacy filters and such) would possibly block this connection.

Ray, do you see anything in the status bar at the bottom of the page when this happens?  This sounds different than what I would expect to happen...

Thanks,

Laura

I have noticed the access to now.eloqua.com quite a while. Its only a short time but I can see it in the status bar. I never got really blocked by this access.

I have 24 MBit/s on my local WLAN, 20 MBit/s over the cable modem. But I'm located in Germany/Europe and this can limit the transfer over the trans atlantic route.

I often discover slow downloads from the NI site (it's the only one outside Europe I need to download; Firefox, Thunderbird and Open Office I get from European mirrors). The LV Beta was 0,8MBit/s while a download from Click&Buy from a German supplier was 6,4Mbit/s. I don't think that a slow download is a local problem.

I've been away from the forums for the past few days..

I'll pay attention to it next time it happens.  I'll check to see if I took screen captures the last time it happened.

now.eloqua.com performs website tracking and is commonly blocked by using an entry in the operating systems hosts file. (127.0.0.1  now.eloqua.com #[WebBug])

This is why I cannot view any NI web page that requires a connection to the eloqua.com server prior to loading the NI webpage. In order to post this message I needed to remark out the eloqua entry in my hosts file. See http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm for more info.
