"...  perhaps only NI staff (blue bar members) should be able to rate forum messages? " Smiley Surprised

I had to wipe the coffee off of my screen after reading that comment.

I would prefer to limit to those that have answered 1000 or more Q,

plus the original quesioner.

The milers have been around enough to know the difference between a good and bad answer and also know that it should be 5-stars or none.

The questioner is the only person who can determine if THEIR Q was answered.

Agreed - a better approach would be five stars or nothing: I was simply trying to find a compromise solution that did not involve a significant forum software redesign. (I'm guessing the forum already has a mechanism for identifying NI people, hence their blue bars.) At least, the NI staff are all professionals - there must be a fair number of amateurs on the public side of the forums, judging by the standard of some of the questions. I know who I would rather rank my contributions.

Usually, the 1-star is used to identify a bad post versus no ratings on a post.

....usually....

The only "bad" posts are spam or offensive tirades. Both should be removed immediately by the moderator so there is no need for a "bad" rating at all. 😉

Allowing bad ratings for on-topic posts will scare away newbies, something we don't want at all. Posting should be encouraged at all levels and there should be no fear of getting drawn into a bad rating spiral!

Agreed!  Away with 1 to 4 stars!!  Let the night sky shine!
