old figures gone?

Solved!

Hello,

I just read one of my earlier posts here and was surprised that instead of my original pictures only a red X is displayed - why did it change? I would have guessed that the figures were more informative than the X Smiley Wink

Did you delete them from your image library?

Thanks!

Puh, the answer is hard to tell, the post is somewhat older and memory aging... But your question implies that figures need to remain in the image library? May be at some earlier time I thought I will not need this figure again... So should I better attach figures instead of inserting them? Sorry for the questions, but it is not addressed in 'Help'

It is definitely better to attach image files to the appropriate post, then edit the message to embed the image pointing to that web location (use the third tab of the embed picture dialog box.)  That way the image won't get deleted accidentally.

Saving the image in your library should be for more universal pictures such as your user icon, or images that you might reuse multiple times.

Many thanks!

I never saved any image myself in the library, the images seem to get saved automatically once I post a message...

And now for something completely different...

In my case, I prefer the albums for my images. They let me group the images from multiple threads into common themes (see here).

This has been very helpful since I don't hve to search for all of the threads where I posted the original images.

And finding the original thread is simplified becuase

album.PNG

the album includes a link to the thread where it was posted.

Album can also be marked as public so the work you put into creating the album is available to other contributors as is the case of my Emoticon Album.

Take care,

Ben

That's what happens when you use the first tab "From My Computer" in the image dialog.

Posting as an attachment, editing the message, copying the URL, then using the third tab "From Another Site" is a few more steps, but it quickly becomes a habit.  Then you don't have to worry about breaking messages if you ever decide to clean out your image albums.  If you've ever used the first tab, then you are pretty much obligated to never clean out your image albums or you won't know what messages you might be breaking.  (Although the albums provide some information as to where an image was used.)

Thank you again!

You know it seems so simple to insert a picture file, the subtleties surface only much later Smiley Wink

Thank you all!
