Don't get me wrong... I also agree with Dennis' comment.
I was simply illustrating potential reasons why some users of the forum might give kudos. Not to say that the items on the list are valid reasons or not.
My point was to show that kudos do not necessarily give value to the posts to which they are given nor do they identify that a post has more value than others because a high number of kudos was given.
Another point is that people may assign kudos for whatever reasons even in the technical forums. So why should non-technical forums be any different?
Aside this topic, but somewhat related, I noticed that some people do not know how to assign the accepted solution.. see this thread

I agree. 😄
Do you think we should try to do anything about people who are not accepting the correct reply? Does it make sense to mention this in the thread to the user? When it is obviously not an answer, should we unmark the solution?
Just curious what other people think.
Thanks,
Laura

It's okay.. I'm sure people reading the thread can figure that out.. 😉
I wouldn't unmark the solution.. You'd be busy just handling that ... 😄

In conversations I had with JR Allen, Molly Koester and Carrie Hooper (befoe Molly) the plan was that the "regulars" would be given quasi-moderator privledges to handle situations where the questioner just isn't playing the game. Last I recall the idea was to have one regular propose a change and only have it executed after it was confirmed by another regular. EG Christian would puch a button indicating "I think this reply should be marked as the best". Latter when Ray sees the mark by Christian he could optionally confirm that change.

I like your idea, Ben.
The same principle could be used to assign kudos. Then they would have value.. 😉 But you'd have to clean the entire kudos and start over to have real meaning.. 🙂
