Hi,
You can indeed install 8.5 on the same machine you have 7.1 on - but when you install 8.5, it will remove the drivers support for 7.1, since driver support will only go three versions back (to 8.0). You will also have to buy a new license for 8.5, as you can only use the upgrade license for a one-version upgrade, I believe.
Regards,
Dan

Hi again,
Further to my earlier post, and to clarify, in order to run the multicore example you mentioned, you will need to use Labview 8.5. If you would like to try 8.5 out, you should visit this link: http://digital.ni.com/demo.nsf/websearch/14F9CE475127ADE786256AC60070926C?OpenDocument&node=157200_US
Also, you will need to download and install the driver CD for 8.5 if you choose to install, which is available here: http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/849/lang/en . Alternatively, you can just install the driver(s) you're interested in.

Dan
