How can I read on/off alarm points from a FP-1600 with DI-330 into a UNIX machine?

I would like use the FP-1600 with DI-330 as a method of reading in ON/OFF alarms, to be read by a UNIX machine, and preferably without any additional Windows machines or software in the loop. Can it be done, easily?

The FieldPoint Ethernet modules use a proprietary communications protocol that is currently only avaialable on Windows based platforms so you can not easily use a FP-1600 with a UNIX machine. However, you could use a FP-2000/2010 and embed a LabVIEW application that uses TCP or UDP according to whatever protocol you wish to implement and have the FP-2000/2010 directly communicate with the UNIX machine through this devised protocol.
