Interfacing FP-1001 with LabVIEW 5.0 on Windows 2000

Hi experts,

I am currently constructing LabVIEW VI's (LabVIEW 5.1) to interface with FP-1001 (which is connected to two FP-TC-120 Thermocouple modules) via PCI NI AT-485/2 card under Windows 2000.

When I used FP Open.vi, it constantly gives the error:
"Error Code 32800: The server name may be invalid or you may not have the necessary permission to access the system registry: FP Open.vi"

I am using MAX 4.1 to check the communication between the PC and FP, and it is indicating that they are working fine (the AT-485/2 is communicating the hardware well). I also checked the IAK file carefully (the path and file names), and since I did "copy-and-paste", it should not have any problem.
I am logging in under Administrator account. So, I think the "permission" should not be the problem as well.

May I know what else would cause the problem? Does Windows 2000 supports LabVIEW 5.1? When I am reinstalling the software, it does indicate "Wrong OS". Would this matter?
Does it matter if I configure the IAK file using FP software or MAX? Would the version of MAX matter as well with respect to the version of LabVIEW?

P/S: I know LabVIEW 5.0 might not be supported in this forum anymore, but my company doesn't feel like upgrading the software. I do hope that I can get some suggestions on resolving this problem. Thanks!

Hi Xippy,

Here are the operating systems that LabVIEW 5.1 supports: Windows NT, 98, 95, 3.1, Power Macintosh, Solaris 2.x or later, HP-UX 10.x or later, and Linux x86. Please note that support for Windows 2000 only became available in LabVIEW 6.1. You may want to try using Windows NT as or OS instead. This may very well be the source of the issue. I hope this helps. Have a great day!

Best regards,

Steven

Thank you very much, Steven. I doubted that as well since I've been searching around the Internet to find out more about issues. I wanted to make sure about this before proposing any software updates.

Do you think the issues will be resolved if we work under LabVIEW 8.2?

I will test them out anyhow and see how it goes, and will post the results here. Thanks again!

Hi xippy,

I would definatlely suggest using a supported combination. So you may want to download the 8.2 evaluation and the appropriate fieldpoint driver version. Please let me know how this goes. Thanks!

Best regards,

Steven
