Multiple computers accessing field point Fp 1601

We have a FP 1601 / FP AI 110 unit configured to operate on our LAN. It appears to operate fine when only one computer is running explorer. When we add a second computer, explorer on the second computer will not locate the field point and the first computer starts to loose the connection.

OS is Win 2K
Verified IP addresses are not being used for other applications
Computers and field point are on the same subnet.

Any suggestions?

Hi, SirKloss,

One thing you could try is to use the IAK you have in the first computer, and copy it to the second one. That way, all the FieldPoint banks found in the network and their configuration will be the same on the second computer. When you say that the second computer will not locate the FieldPoint, do you mean that it will not find it automatically from the Remote System Explorer? How about if you try to just type its IP Address from the Comm Resource Configuration window when you are adding a new FP bank on the network? Finally, you mentioned that the first computer also starts loosing connection. How do you determine that?

I hope this helps. Have a good one!

Explorer indicates on each computer that I am disconnected. If I refresh, sometimes it will connect sometimes it won't.

I also tried copying the iak file - same results.

If I disconnect computer 1, then connect computer 2, everything appears to work fine. If I add computer 1 back, I get the same results as before.

Hi SirKloss,

As previously mentioned, when one computer is connected and the other one couldn't connect, did you try manually adding the FP module by entering the IP address? Have you tried resetting the IP address of the FP unit to see if the same thing occurs? Also, what kind of Access Control settings do you have?

Thanks,
Lesley Y.

Hi Lesley,

I've reset the FP modules, manually entered the IP address, etc. Basically I started everything over with computer A and verified there was a proper connection (communication). Then I set-up computer B to see if it would communicate.

Then I reset everything and started up this time with computer B first and verified proper connection. Then I set-up the computer A to see if it would communicate.

The conclusion was if only one computer (A or B or C, etc) is trying to access the FP1601, then everything is fine. If two computers try to access the same field point, one or both will say disconnected (in explorer).

If I have two FP 1601s on the LAN, one computer will access them with no problem. Add a second computer and the same problem occurs.

I'm not sure what you mean by access control. Please clarify.

I must be missing something simple. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!!

Can you list all the relevant software versions being used? By "Access Control", I was referring to the security settings which configures the access from different IP addresses.

Thanks.
