Why am I getting a "Unable to contact remote machine error over the network" error.

I am trying to embed a vi on my FP-2000 module but continue to get a "Unable to contact remote machine over the network." error when attempting to view my FP-2000 module's software configuration via FP Remote system Explorer.

My configuration consists of a Pentium 4 computer with a fiber NIC, a fiber switch, and a fiber to Ethernet media converter. The switch is connected converter via multimode fiber to a media converter which then connects to my FP-2000 module. My FP system is located at the base of a 200m tower where I am monitoring numerous meterological instruments. My operating system is windows 2000 Server with Service pack 3. I am running Lab View 6.0.3, Lab View RT M
odule 6.0.3, and Field Point 3.0.1.. I have an FP 2000 module and three FP-AI-100 modules in my system. All of my modules can be accessed via FP Explorer and I can read all voltages from the instruments attached to my my FP-AI modules.

My FP 2000 module is configured with an assigned IP address, has no status errors, the link light is lit, and the activity light flashes as it should. All appears good. Each AI module has solid power and ready inducators. Looks good. I can ping the FP-2000 module and can read the modules attached to it. I can't interrogate or write to the FP-2000 module.

I eliminated the fiber system and switch by using a non-fiber NIC and a long cross-over cable. Same result.

I am thinking a possible software version problem or incompatability with 2000 server? I'm open to any ideas or suggestions out there.

Since, you have tried it on a cross-over cable, I would look at your network security settings. Look at these settings by going to FieldPoint Explorer >>Edit this comm resource>> Network Security. It sounds like this problem because you can set up options for certain computer for Read Only access, etc. Also, check to see if the device is locked (right mouse click in Remote System Explorer).

Also, make sure that you have the LVRT 6.0.3 image running on the FP-2000. Go to Remote Systme Explorer, right mouse click and choose Install/Upgrade Software.
