download time

hi everybody,
I fiunally had a new VISTA based notebook, and I began to test cFP-2120 with it.

I installed new MAX 4.3 (the older version I had, 3.1.1 didn't instal properly on Vista), and Installed LV 7.1 + RT 7.1. I'm not sure that LabView 7.1 is Vista compatible, but it works. The main problem was uninstalling separately newer VISA and Serial RT drivers to install the ones bundled with MAX 3.1.1, to be able to run RealTime 7.1, but all works.

The problem I'm experiencing now, is download application time: it takes almost 5 minutes to download application to cFP-2120 controller, while in my main developement PC with XP and old MAX 3.1.1 it takes less than one minute.

I was wondering if I missed something? Is someone else experiencing the same problem?

   Thanks for support!

Dear Graziano,

Actually Labview 7.1 and Labview Real Time 7.1 aren't supported on Vista.
NI started supporting Labview on VISTA from version 8.2.1 and earlier.
Are you able to benchmark the download time using a newer version of Labview, possibly 8.5,  and one of the provided FP examples ?
Have you checked for other possible causes of delay in TCP/IP comms ? Maybe Firewalls Antivirus IPv6 or other stuff are "jamming" your ethernet.

Best regards

Hi FiloP,
I'm currently unable to test it with LV 8.2.

I know LV 7.1 is not officially VISTA-compatible, but for my application it works, and since it has only to be a test PC, I can use it.

The actual tdownload time, is: almost 1'50" on old PC with XP, more than 10' on VISTA PC. Tomorrow, if I've the PC (today is away for other projects, it is not my PC Smiley Sad), I'll try to test behavior with different Antivirus settings (I already tested with firewall off, with firewall enabled, cFP aren't found by MAX).

Maybe, I'll be done with a Virtual machine (I love them!): I've installed a VM (VMware) on VISTA PC, with Windows XP SP2 as VMware OS, andthere, old MAX and LV are fine (at the end, it is sufficient that ethernet NIC works properly, and I can do maintenance with this gear).

Anyway, I was wondering if, in general, download time is higher on new gear (VISTA + LV 8.5 etc.).  Someone encountered problems with this?

   Thanks for interesting!

Hi All!
just tested with firewall and antivirus down, and download time is the same (12').  I've also checked for IPv6, it is disabled.  Actually, I don't know if there's some Norton service running that I can't stop (unfortunately, I'm not administrator on this PC).

What I can report too, is that using MAX 3.1.1 + LV 7.1 (my old gear Smiley Happy) on a windowsXP-based virtual machine, download time is 2'!!!  This VirtualMachine runs inside vista PC, so the problem can be worked easily this way.

Still, I was wondering if LV 8 + MAX 4.3 give better performance, or if there's some hidden Vista component I have to handle to solve this...

Almost forgive! My application is about 13 MBytes.  I was also wondering about why LV takes such a long time (also 2' is a long time for downloading 13 MB through crossed cable directly connected between PC and cFP-2120).

Hoping to understand always something more.... Smiley Happy

   Thanks everybody!
