how rugged are the fieldpoint modules compared to the cFP?

I have an application where I am considering mounting a Fieldpoint ethernet module and 16DI module on a moving 6 foot belt drive servo conveyor.  This cyles 6 foot down and back every 4 seconds 24 hours a day 5 days a week.  My NI rep says that I should go to the cFP because it is ruggedized to handle the industrial environment, however if you read the sales literature both are recommended for industrial applications.  Although I have not quantified the vibration level, it does not seem excessive. I would not mind using cFP if I did not have to use that massive 4 slot rack.  I figured a 4 slot rack would weigh very little, however it appears that NI has built the cFP with a new process that incorporates lead, cement, and depleted uranium.  This has to sit on a servo mechanism so extra weight means lots of inertia and accel/decel issues and the traditional FP seems like a much lighter and smaller alternative when using only an ethernet module and a 16DI module.

Go with the Compact FieldPoint modules. Do NOT use the regular FieldPoint for this application. Traditional FieldPoint IO modules are latched in place with a single plastic retaining latch. The terminal bases are likewise secured on the DIN rail with two rail locks at either end. Compact FieldPoint uses screws for mounting all of the various components. It is much more suited to an application where vibration is expected to occur. Additionally, certain modules have differences in the manufacturing technique for mounting components such that Compact FieldPoint will readily withstand higher vibration and shock than FieldPoint will.

   Aaron is rigth.   There was a rumor, about the fact that FP showed "some problems" in vibration applications, "problems now solved", but..... anyway, cFP seems to be better.  Also regarding performances, you have the newer cFP-2120, that have no similar (....check to be sure, I can't grant it!) in FP devices.

Yes, I have heard (rumours?) that the old FieldPoint IO modules would actually fall of the bank because of the vibration!!
