un-predictable waits

hi everybody,
I'm experiencing a very strong problem with my cFP-2020s....

It's been 1 year I'm working on an application, that was going to be finished and to be delivered.  I just made some changes, and now I see unpredictable wait times.

I mean, my cFP has to talk to a RS232 client via RS232 port COM1, and some times, it doesn't answer (I communicate with embedded application with a particular custom protocol over RS232).

When I send some particluar commands, cFP-2020 switch to another state (and this is correct to me), but I notice it gets still, it does nothing for 30 seconds, and then it goes on normally.

The strange thing is that I didn't have this before with application 99% complete, and now, if I re-download old working app it shows the same behaviour!!! I mean, the old application worked some days ago, what's the story?!?!?

I began to think that some library in cFP-2020 module is corrupted, so I tested the application on another cFP, in which previous application worked, but I get the same problem, so it seems to me that LabVIEW has some corrupted library on my computer, which is downloaded to cFP-2020, and makes problems.... is this possible? Help really apreciated!

Greetings Graziano,

That does sound strange... I have never encountered that type of behavior before? It sounds like since you did try using two completely different cFP-2020s, and the problem still existed that is might be coming from your host PC or third party hardware. A few suggestions I can recommend would be to upgrade to the latest version of FieldPoint. (currently 5.0) If already done so, then uninstall and reinstall. Then, for redundancy, you might also try updating the OS on the cFP-2020. That way everything will have been removed.

Next, you might want to try removing some of the I/O modules from the backplane one by one to see if they might also be causing the problem. I have seen a single module cause a cFP controller to function improperly due to improper connections on the module.

Finally, what kind of RS-232 commands are you sending to your client that cause a 30 second idle time? Can you pin point which command? Maybe then you can find out if your client is functioning properly also?

Hope this helps!

Hi Jordan,
thanks so much for your reply!

I have tried many things, and at the end I discovered that it was a software problem, (I mean: my fault!).  But this is not the only issue: the problem was also that I couldn't access regularly to my cFP module, due to communication problems, and this seems not to be tied to my application! I posted another  message to report this, and I'm still waiting for an answer.

I know the problem is strange, anyway, the problem of ethernet debugging remains, because I get many waits on connection, and loosing of connections. Se my other poost for details!

Just a little note: my cFP-2020 is not attached to a backplane, since it has no IO cFP modules to control. It is just used as an embedded PC. It "talks" to a FP-1001 module with optomux protocol...

But apart from this, thanks for your interest! Have a nice day!
