what is the purpose of the DIP switches in FP 1601

I would like to know what is the purpose of the DIP switches and ABcd LED's in the FP 1601.
the field point explorer also shows these, how can i use these status programatically.

DIP Switches 1-7 on the FP-1601 and LED's A-D are user controllable switches and displays. DIP Switch 8 is the reset DIPSwitch for reseting the IP Address. They are read/written just as any other channel on a FieldPoint IO module is, the only difference is that they are on the controller and not an IO module. The DIP Switches are considered Boolean inputs and the LEDs are considered count outputs with valid values between 0 and 2 (0=Off, 1 = Green, 2=Red). LED's B, C & D are bi-color (Green/Red) and LED A is unicolor (Green only).

Thanks for the clarification. What is the typical application that uses these switches and LED's. How can it be incoporated in the apllication.
Is it possible for me to use an IAK file configured for FP1600 to adapt to these settings, i mean to interact with the options you had explained here.
