If the PXI-5122 is a 14 bit card, why is the binary data 16 bits?

When I fetch data from the 5122 in 16 or 32 bits, is the 14 bit ADC data just interpolated to the higher resolutions?

Yes. The data is fetched in byte packages... since we need 2 bytes of data to retrieve 14 bits, the 5122 will acquire the data as 16-bit. The 14 bit ADC will still determine the boards accuracy, though (a code width of about .6 mV at a range of 10 V
