The NI-SCOPE Function Reference for NISCOPE_ATTR_INPUT_CLOCK_SOURCE lists the option but does not seem to include a suitable value. Nor is it obvious in niScope.h what value should be used.

The correct input string for this would be:
NISCOPE_VAL_EXTERNAL

You are correct that the function reference manual lists the incorrect information. This has been filed with R&D to be fixed in future versions.
