ni scope is suddenly slow to boot.

Solved!

Hello,

I had been using a USB 5132 without any trouble, but am suddenly having long delays in finding it even when its green LED light is on.  The simplest problem I can describe is that all of a sudden it takes 20-30 minutes for NI-Scope to boot up.  Specifically, when I start NI-Scope on my PC, I can see it as a process in the task manager for 20+ minutes before the NI-Scope window appears on my screen.  Then, everything seems to be better in that I can stream data to disk with the digitizer, see it on NI-Scope, etc.  However these delays are making me nervous.  Is there something I should update, for example?  I have made sure that my NI-VISA is current.

Thanks,

Penny

Penny,

Do you mean that it takes a long time for the NI-Scope Soft Front Panel to open?

Have you made any recent changes on your computer?  (Installations, System Services, etc.)  It could be that you have more resources being used, and thus it is taking longer to load.  Is it just NI-SCOPE that is taking a long time to load?  How about MAX, or any of the other NI programs?  Have you recently updated the NI-VISA drivers, after you have had NI-SCOPE installed?  If so you will need to update the NI-SCOPE drivers as well, or reinstall since NI-SCOPE must be installed after NI-VISA.

Hope this helps.

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for the reply.  Yes, the NI-Scope Soft Front Panel takes a long time to open.  NI-Max starts up quickly, but then takes a long time to find the USB-5132.

I may not have reinstalled NI-Scope after updating VISA.  I should probably try this.  Thanks.

Best regards,

Penny

If it takes a long time for it to find the USB device, there may be a problem communicating with the device.  Do you have the Scope USB connected directly to your computer, ie not through a hub?  Also do you have a long USB cable? (Data transmission problem)  Does it take a long time to find the device regardless of the USB port you connect it to?

Look into these after you try reinstalling the NI-SCOPE drivers.

What versions of the software do you have installed?  For NI-VISA, NI-SCOPE, and for the Soft Front Panel.  Also, what system/operating system are you using?

There are a few other possibilities as to why it has started behaving differently.  What has changed on your system recently?  Any IT upgrades to your computer?  Also, which version of Windows are you running?  Have you tried running the SFP as an administrator?

How long does it take MAX to identify the digitizer? Same amount of time as it takes SFP to load?

Hello again,

Many apologies for my slow reply.  The problem has resolved itself and I do not know how.  I updated some drivers and checked for other N.I. updates.  Now NI Scope starts up in the usual way.  Thanks for all of the questions about this and I wish I had the answers.

Thanks,

Penny
