niScope for linux 2.6

Does niScope application software work for linux 2.6? I currently have it running on Red Hat Enterprise 3, but
that's the 2.4 kernel and this is a rather outdated kernel version.

Hello Stephen,

NI-SCOPE 2.9 for Linux supports only the following Linux distributions:

* Mandrakelinux 10.1 Official

* Mandriva Linux 2006

* SUSE LINUX Professional 9.2 and 9.3

* Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS 3

Hey Sean,

I have seen this list before and I am curious why NI supports only RPM distributions? I totally get that NI can't support all distributions but Debian seems like a logical choice since popular distributions such as Ubuntu, Mepis, Debian, Knoppix and over 100 other distributions (according to distrowatch.com) are Debian based.

Stephen - In Sean's list, note that all of the distributions NI-SCOPE supports except Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS3 are kernel 2.6-based.  Therefore, if you can switch to a supported Mandriva or SUSE distribution, you would get a 2.6 kernel.  (If you do switch to SUSE, would you prefer the new version 10.0?  We're considering adding SUSE LINUX 10.0 support if there is demand.)

Russ - Thanks for the feedback on Debian and variants.  Unfortunately, there are so many Linux distributions, variations, and versions, we've had to be very, very selective about what we support.  Debian did not make the list.

If every other distribution you support is 2.6 based, how come you guys haven't upgraded to RH 4?

Thanks for the reply. I really applaud NI's efforts into Linux for it's products I just hope decisions like which distributions to support get a periodically reexamined.

In that vain I feel NI almost has to support SUSE 10 if it's going to support SUSE at all. The idea that 6 months from now you would still list SUSE 9.3 as being supported seems questionable since most SUSE users would have switched to 10 and are already eyeing ver 11.

RH4 presents some unique technical obstacles.  A reduced kernel stack size makes complex driver software like NI-SCOPE more difficult.  I can't give you a timeframe for RH4 support.  If you need kernel 2.6, I would advise using one of the supported Mandriva or SUSE distributions.

No Sh*t... And I thought Red Hat was the leader in Linux distributions. I wonder why the reduced the stack size in RH 4. Will
this change in RH 5? Do you know what the kernel confiuration is for Fedora Core 5? Having to learn another linux distrubtion
will be a pain...
