PCI 5640 IFRIO

hi,
this is valli again....
my question was not about ADC but about DAC..... if i try to output a sine wave (analog signal)from the fpga to an oscilloscope and i send it to the DAC output port, will it be directly digitised by the board at that point and then reconvert it to the the analog signal at the output end or should my output be of the digitized form of the sine wave wen i feed it inot the DAC?????
can you please help me out????

Thank you
Valli

Hi Valli

I’m not really sure what you are asking……

“….if i try to output a sine wave (analog signal)from the fpga…..”
The output from the FPGA is a digital signal, although the digital samples represent an analog IQ signal.  Ideally 16 bits for I and Q, but in the end, whatever you program it to be.

“…from the FPGA to an oscilloscope…”
You can’t send a signal from the FPGA directly to an oscilloscope.  At least with any normal inputs/outputs of the module.

“….i send it to the DAC output port,….”
Do you mean sending the data to the DAC?  Or to the AOx SMA?  Digital data goes from the FPGA to the DACs, which then output the analog Digital Upconverted signals to the AOx SMA.

“…, will it be directly digitised by the board at that point and then reconvert it to the the analog signal at the output end or should my output be of the digitized form of the sine wave wen i feed it inot the DAC?”
Sorry, I’m not sure what you are asking.  If you are not talking about the ADCs, there is no digitization taking place on the module.  The DAC only takes in digital data.

I refer you to the PCI-5640R Block Diagram, Analog Output (AO), and AD 9857 Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) Operation sections of the NI 5640R Help file.
