I am currently using Labview 2011 under windows 7, and have installed NI device net driver.
I’ve followed the instruction according to these instructions below:
This tutorial is a basic overview explaining how to get started with the NI-Industrial Communications for DeviceNet software. Each section includes links to more detailed information.
Step 1—Build the Hardware Network
Step 3—Add a Real-Time Controller (Only for PXI-Based products)
Step 4—Add a DeviceNet Master and connected Slave devices
Step 6—Use the DeviceNet Explicit Message Function Block
However, it shows some error as attached although the configuration by MAX seems to be correct. The error is:
the device interface can’t be found.

Hi Craftindo,
It looks like your hardware is not being found. I would double check that your hardware is powered on and that you have it connected.
Could you also tell use what hardware setup you have?
It also looks like you ran into this problem on step 4, is this right?

If you said, it is not found, Why is it then found by using MAX as seen in MAX.jpg?
It can find the module as address ID=3.
Do you see my point?
The h/w is fine, the green light shows solid green.
1. What do youthink?
2. do you have a simple example on how to use dnet? the example that i see already set up a hardware : i.e. temperature & set point.
But, i dont have such hardware. The module that i am having is just a simple output that i want to set on/off.
thanks

Hi craftindo,
You were referencing the documentation for the NI-Industrial Communications for DeviceNet software, however this software only works with the PCI-8532 as outlined in the readme.
I see from your MAX picture that you have dnet 1.6.5 installed, which is not the same software and only supports our later PCI-CAN boards, which is outlined in the readme.
It looks like you are using a CAN card, however I can't see exactly which. I was hoping you could clarify the exact hardware you are using so we can make sure you are using the right documentation and software for your board.
There also are examples for CAN in the labview help under help>>find examples>>hardware input and output>>CAN. Let me look and see if I can find examples for dnet. However, the functions for this driver are located in labview under the Instrument IO>>DNET pallete.

Hi there,
I bought this card https://www.ni.com/en-us/support/model.pci-dnet.html
777358-01 |
NI PCI-DNET 1-Port DeviceNet Interface |
12 - 20 |
CAD 2,200.00 |
So, I myself also really am confused whether this is a CAN card or DNET card. However, the readme mentions that version 2.0.2 is a completely different and not the continuation / upgrade version. Hence, the older version which is dnet 1.6.5 can be installed side by side.
Since I am handling an old project where the computer breaks down, so I have to replace the PC with a new PC, which doesn’t support Win XP anymore. Hence, I upgrade the whole stuff to Labview 2011. Therefore, I install an older version library to work with that card.
Compatibility with NI-DNET 1.x
NI-Industrial Communications for DeviceNet 2.0.x is completely separate from NI-DNET 1.x. It is not an update for NI-DNET 1.x, which means that an application using NI-DNET 1.x is not compatible with NI-Industrial Communications for DeviceNet 2.0.x. However, both NI-Industrial Communications for DeviceNet 2.0.x and NI-DNET 1.x may be installed and used on the same system.
The slave is
OMRON DRT2 OD16
Here is the datasheet.
Also the request about report from MAX
Am I missing any step here?
