Help Test Ethernet port via loopback

Hi Everyone

I need a method to BITE test our ATE Systems PXI Ethernet card (PXI-8231), this is to establish the system and cabling is working correctly, we have a special harness which will cover the remaining instrmentation. Ordinarily Ethernet cards have LED's to show if connected, this card does not, otherwise we will have to build in a mini ethernet hub, and ping the address of that hub.

Any ideas will be very welcome

Hi Michelle,

Thank you for posting on this forum. We will need a bit more information before I can offer a suitable suggestion as this seems to be quite a tricky issue. What kind of special harness do you use for the remaining instrumentation? Is there no way to check if it is connected within the software? Or is this going to be a stand-alone isolated system?

Many Thanks,

Hi John

Thanks for the reply, our ATE system is quite complex integrated test system in terms of instrumentation as its mainly RF with various digital IO and other instrumentation presented to a fully loaded 10 slot Vaginia Front Panel interface

If there is no apparent easy solution, then we will incorperate a small low cost hub in our test harness and ping its IP address

Hi Michelle,

Thank you for your speedy reply, I would suggest the way to go would be to attach a small router and then ping it's IP address as you previously mentioned.

Is this a viable resolution?

Many thanks,
