A version of a National Instruments system component that is not supported on this operating system has been detected.

On install of N_488.1 V 2.7 on VISTA 32 bit system, I get "A version of a National Instruments system component that is not supported on this operating system has been detected. "

All old NI drivers have uninstalled. All files removed from directories, registry scrubbed to remove all entries for "National Instruments", "NI-488" and "NI488". vistaCleanUpTool.exe run multiple times, with reboots, and still get the **** message.

"Unsupported version of National Instruments system component detected"

Hi K1YCM,

Thank you for contacting National Instruments. I've linked an article here which gives a list of the minimum driver versions for VISTA 32 bit. When you say that you have removed all old Drivers, have you removed all the old software as well? This may cause a software problem if you have legacy software installed.

Please let me know how you get on.

Andrew:

In response to : "have you removed all the old software as well? "; with the exception of the new install sodtware packlage (V2.7) there is no National Instrument software on the system.

The system is running MS VISTA Version Build 6.0  SP 1

Hardware HP Pavilion dv 9700 Notebook PC AMD Turion 64X2 Mobile TL60 2 GHz

The sequence is as follows:

The article describes that you must remove all NI software and driversbefore the Vista Cleanup Tool is used.  Have you only tried to remove NI488.2?  Yes; All programs from NI (previous versions) removed, there were no others(non NI products)to remove.  Solution: …………Uninstall all National Instruments software by navigating to:Start » Control Panel » Programs » Uninstall a Program » National Instruments Software » Remove DONEUninstall all LEGO Mindstorms NXT software and drivers (there may be a few files) by navigating to:Start » Control Panel » Programs » Uninstall a Program » LEGO Mindstorms NXT Software » Remove  Never used LEGO NXT..None to removeReboot your computer. Done Additional steps performed:  Removed from directory structure all NI files.   Removed from Registry all items containing:                    “National-Instrument”                    “national Instrument”                    “NI-488”                    “NI488” Run the attached vistaCleanupTool.exe. Done Troubleshooting:If you receive an error similar to "Failed to remove oemXX.inf from the driver store, inf is in use" when running vistaCleanupTool.exe, complete the following steps: No error messages received from vistaCleanupTool ---------------------------National Instruments Driver Software Cleanup Tool for Windows Vista---------------------------This tool cleans Windows Vista systems ...........
OK

Hi K1YCM,

I have a further suggestion for you to try. Can you try installing the latest version of the NI-VISA for Vista. I've attached a link to the download here. Once you've installed that, can you then try installing the 488.2 driver.

Please let me know how you get on,

Many thanks,

Hi K1YCM,

Can I ask which version of VISTA you are using? Are you using the Home version or the Business version of VISTA? I have a further suggestion for you if you can confirm that your email address is Les@veenstras.com.

Many thanks,

Hi,

This thread looked like it was going to solve my problem, but it seems that the conversation went to emails so the solution was never posted.

I am pretty new to Labview so I will see what information I can give.

I installed the version of Labview that we have here which is Labview 6.1 onto my laptop which is running Vista Home SP2. My plan was to make a I-V sweep program for a 2400 source meter. The program does seem to do what I wanted. However, when I tried to connect the laptop up to the GPIB-USB-HS cable we have it could never find the drivers. So I found the NI  488-2 CD that came with the cable and tried to install that. But I keep getting unsupported Ni errors and it was not installing. Even after removing all of the NI that was installed with the Labview 6.1 and running the Vistacleanup.exe I still get unsupported Ni errors as described by the pass poster.

Any help would be greatly appricated. I have added the *.vi I was using (some reason it does not run on my other XP lapto, it gives memory errors in the library which I can not solve either, I am using the 24xx-850CV2.0 drivers)

Hello cuk11,

I would like to confirm that Windows Vista is supported as of LabVIEW 8.2.1.  LabVIEW 6.1 was developed even before Windows XP was available.  Also, the recommended version of Windows Vista is Business or greater.  Using unsupported versions of LabVIEW on Vista could lead to instability of the Development Environment and VI corruption.

It is recommended that you upgrade to the latest version of LabVIEW.  The link below describes all the latest developments in recent years.  Click on the tab which states "Since LabVIEW 7.1"

http://www.ni.com/labview/whatsnew/features.htm

With regards to the use of the GPIB-USB-HS, you require the use of NI-VISA and NI-488.2.  The latest version of NI-488.2 that will work with LabVIEW 6.1 is version 2.4.  This version also supports GPIB-USB-HS.  However, the ReadMe file for this version states that only Windows XP/2000 is supported.

NI 488.2 version 2.6 supports Vista, however, it only supports LabVIEW 7.1.1 and greater.

looks like I will have to either upgrade or sort out the issues I have with my other laptop that has XP on it.
