Bogus DMA conflict PC104/GPIB, NI488.2 v. 1.7, Win XP SP2

Hello,

PC104/GPIB board on Windows XP SP2, NI488.2 v 1.7 (that is the latest (aka last) version that supports PC104/GPIB boards)

Troubleshooting
wizard failed to test the board. It reported DMA resource conflict even though
there are no conflicts at all. Windows shows that configure DMA channel is used
only by GPIB board and there are no conflicts. I've tried to configure different
DMA channels and even to setup the board not to use DMA but nothing helped.

Nevertheless I've tried to search for the instruments and
the instrument was found however I wasn't able to communicate with it.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Boris

Boris,

Have you tried the steps listed on this page? http://www.ni.com/support/gpib/comprob/nt/conflict.htm Also does the device show up correctly in MAX as well as in the windows device manager?

Richard,

Yes, I've tried that. No conflicts whatsoever.

Thanks,

And yes, the Device Manager and MAX show the board correctly.

Thanks,

You mentioned earlier:

Nevertheless I've tried to search for the instruments and
the instrument was found however I wasn't able to communicate with it.

Do you mean that you were able to scan for gpib instruments from the computer and correctly recognize them?  Then you were not able to query the instrument using the VISA interactive control?

I haven't used VISA. I've scanned instruments through the MAX and the instrument was found and correct GPIB address was displayed. However any attempts to communicate with the instrument (using MAX) failed.

Can you send me a screenshot of your device in the Device Manager, as well as a screenshot of MAX showing the devices recognized. Also any screenshots of errors and a spy capture ( http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/282C5D41E2BA04F2862574BA007803B9 ) while you are getting this error could be very helpful in determining the root cause.

Boris,

Can I get a picture of the jumpers on your PC104? It looks like Page 2-9 of the manual mentions that we shouldn't set the IRQ to 06 because it is reserved. Are you able to disable DMA completely on the card and communicate with your device?

Hello,

I think I have the same problem with the same interface (DMA conflict message despite there is no conflict at all), did you solve this issue ?

Regards

Lionel
