I'm trying to install a GPIB to USB adapater (GPIP-USB-HS) on a 64bit, Windows 7 laptop. Everytime I run through the install process (install, restart, plug in USB), the laptop finds the device, but cannot install the drivers. In the Device Manager, I get the following message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)".
I've tried to uninstall the device from the Device Manager, but that doesn't help. I've also tried uninstalling the GPIP software (version 2.7.3) from the National Instruments software removal panel. I've also tried uninstalling the NI PXI Platform Services 2.5.2. Everytime I reinstall the software, the result is the same.
I've HAVE installed the device drivers on a Windows XP PC (x86) and everything works just fine. The problem is that I need to use the adapter with my laptop, not the PC! I'm stumped! Anyone have any other ideas of what I can do in order to get this adapter running on my laptop.
One other side note... at one point I did have an older National Instruments GPIP adapter installed on this laptop and I had installed NI 488.2 v2.5.2. I don't know if the GPIB adapter itself was the same version or not, but it worked fine. Could that older install be causing the issues?
Thanks in advance for any help that anyone may be able to give!!

Just to answer your questions... I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium. When I had NI-488.2 v2.5.2 installed, I was running Vista x64. I've recently completed a clean install of Windows 7. No other NI products were connected while trying to install the drivers. In fact no other hardware was connected at all.
Now, my solution!!
I tried uninstalling various National Instruments components one at a time to see if re-installing the 488.2 drivers would work. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to help. So finally, I went ahead and unistalled ALL National Instruments product from my computer. I then made sure to delete all left over NI folders and cleaned out the registry. After reinstalling LabWindows, NI-488.2, NI-CAN, and NI-Serial, and other general NI components, the GPIB adapter appears to work.
I haven't yet attempted to communicate with the hardware that I'd like to control (a HP 6032A power supply), however, the GPIB adapter is now recogized by the Measurement & Automation Explorer as well as the Windows Device Manager.
I'm not sure what was causing the issue, but it seems like something, somewhere was corrupted.
