Hello mpsaravanan,

What is your actual application?  Are you attempting to create an instrument that has a GPIB and Ethernet port?  Are you attempting to make a product that will translate from ethernet to GPIB (or the other way around)?

NI already has a GPIB-ENET/100 that acts as a GPIB controller and connects to computers via ethernet. Is this the kind of product you are looking for?

Thanks,

Steven T.

Yes. I am interested in making an instrument based on GPIB. As ethernet based applications are increasing I am willing to concentrate on net based instrumentation with GPIB. Though NI provides the cards based on these thechniques I am interested in learning this.

Hello,

I gather from your post that you would like to make a GPIB instrument using our ASICs that happen to also have an ethernet port.  NI does not have any ASICs for ethernet communication.  However we have several GPIB ASICs to choose from.  The older ASICs, the NAT9914 and NAT7210, come with controller functionality as well as the usual talker/listener.  They also requrie the use of GPIB transceiver chips outlined in their manuals under hardware considerations.

Our newer ASICs, the TNT4882 and TNT5002, have the talker/listener functionality with no controller.  These do not requie the use of the GPIB transceiver chips.  The TNT4882 has a mode that allows it to plug directly into an ISA interface.  The TNT5002 has a mode that allows it to plug directly into a PCI interface.

Check the product pages, datasheets, and manuals for the ASICs you would like to use.

I hope this helps,
