GPIB Ethernet

I have the following test scenario:

I have to connect a test instrument, that only has ethernet port availability, to a test station controller that only has GPIB access.  I will need some sort of converter so that the GPIB test station can control the ethernet based test instrument.

Is the GPIB-ENET/100 a solution for this?

I was not sure because the description of the GPIB-ENET-100 converter talks about the ethernet side controlling a grouping of instruments on the GPIB bus. My scenario is the reverse, the GPIB side controlling an ethernet based instrument.

Thanks!!

Why can't you simply add a cheap NIC to the controller? Either pci or USB types are available for a fraction of the cost of the GPIB-ENET.

Hey Jim,

When you try and set up the GPIB-ENET/100 in Measurement and Automation Explorer, it looks for the device to be connected through ethernet, and so since your test station does not have an ethernet port you will be unable to set up and access the device. Unless your instrument has some sort of operating system that you can install MAX on, you won't be able to use the GPIB-ENET/100 for this application. Take Dennis' advice and look for a cheap USB/PCI NIC card that you can put in your test station. Another thing you might want to look at is our PCI-8232 card, which has a GPIB and an ethernet connection : https://www.ni.com/en-us/support/model.pci-8232.html
