GPIB and ancient HP signal generator

  I'm trying to automate a really old HP 8672A signal generator

If your device has GPIB, serial or some other bus you can hook up to a modern computer you should be able to talk to it. The hard part is, do you still have access to the manual that will have the list of commands that the device recognizes. The problem with older instruments is that the standardized command set of 488.2 had not been created yet so every old device is a bit different.
