Getting a graph from HP8591EM Spectrum Analyser

Hi,

I have been trying to get a graph similar to the one on the screen of the spectrum analyser using LabView 7.1. I do not know how to do that. I am using a HP 8591EM Spectrum analyser. I have interfaced a laptop using a NI PCMCIA-GPIB. I am able to control the spectrum analyser but do not know how to acquire a graph onto my laptop. Does anyone have a solution or the programers manual for HP8591EM?

Hi,

Although NI does not have a driver for your specific model, we do have a LabVIEW Plug and Play driver for the Agilent 8591A spectrum analyzer. There is often a significant overlap between models of the same series or replacement models from the same manufacturer (e.g., xxxxA to xxxxB). If you find a driver which supports a similar instrument, you should download it and try it out. You might find that with little or no modification you can use the driver. Most probably, you will just need to modify the ID Query part of the Initialize VI.

 I have been trying to get a graph (Displayed on the screen) from HP8591EM Spectrum Analyzer. I've purchased a GPIB Card from National; instruments. How to set the instument to retrieve the data. I have got a small booklet on the commands of the HP8591EM. Please help me in this regard. If you have some document about the analyzer please do send it. moulicha@gmail.com.

What software are you using? Have you done a search of the Instrument Driver Network? There are LabVIEW and CVI drivers for 8951A, 8951B, and 8951E. Those should get you started. Any documentation on the instrument should be gotten from Agilent.
