HP 4194A via GPIB?

Connecting to a HP 4194A via GPIB and upon scanning for instruments the device does not respond to the *IDN? query?

This is common with old instruments, like the 4194A. Older instruments did not implement the standard set of SCPI commands. Most likely it has an "ID" command, or something similar.

If you haven't already done so you should download the driver.

I tried "ID" and several versions thereafter between that and "*IDN?" and still no repsonse.  Yes, I downloaded the drivers.  Any other idea?

Did you try to read the manual before sending random commands or look at the initialize function's block diagram? There is no id query for the instrument.

What function did you try in the driver? What error code did you get?

Get back to you Monday after I've had a chance to get back to it.

Jimbo,

I had tried the command ID? and this worked for me.

Thanks,

Hello,

Please I need your help connecting my HP4194 A with the computer.

IT always says "IDN string not available".

Any advice please? I am really lost.

Thanks for everything.

Karim
