How do I stop ENET-232/4 from automatically closing its ports?

I am using an ENET-232/4 to control a development rack remotely. Unfortunately, after leaving a terminal window idle for about a minute, the ENET-232/4 closes the port, forcing me to exit the terminal program and reopen it (disconnecting and reconnecting doesn't suffice). I've tried opening the port through HyperTerminal, Tera Term, and the Measurement & Automation application that NI supplies (MAX). All methods demonstrate the same behavior. I do not see this behavior when I connect directly to the development rack, and the port closing coincides with an ethernet packet from the ENET-232/4.

I'm running Windows XP and NI-Serial version 1.7. The firmware version for the ENET-232/4 is A.1.

Is there a way to prevent the port from timing out?

Thanks,

Glen

Glen,

After reading this thread it looks like this is probably a problem with your ethernet card, or your network settings. I would recommend trying another computer if you have one to see if this is a network issue, and then perhaps another ethernet card.

Please first download and install the latest version of NI-Serial from the web. If that does not fix the problem, please contact customer support via email for a work around.

Thanks, Shawn, for the suggestion. It does work from another computer, so maybe the ethernet card is the problem.

Joshua, I mistyped the version number for NI-Serial in my previous post. I'm running 1.71, which I believe is the latest. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for the help.

This has been fixed in NI-Serial 1.8 for Windows. Please download the latest NI-Serial driver if you are having this problem.
