I need to query the 488.2 board/controller/interface name (mainly GPIB-USB)

Diadev,

What is the model of the GPIB-USB adapter you're using? I connected a GPIB-USB-HS to my machine and saw it show up correctly in MAX and in gpib.ini. What driver version of NI-488.2 are you running? You can find this info from MAX by expand the Software tree

Sorry about this.. my fault.. windows search did not include the "documents and settings" folder. (Don't ask me why..)

So I found the file where it is supposed for the latest version, as described in your link http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/EF48D0753D8F4EFC8625735A0039E682?OpenDocument .

Finding the right path in a multi language environment is a bit of a pain, though (since there is no direct environment variable - you have to concatenate it yourself fro APPDATA and ALLUSERSPROFILE).

Anyway, many thanks for all your inputs!!
